What is Autism?

Today Autism is described as a range of developmental disabilities called Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). These developmental disabilities generally interfere with social interaction, communication, and behavior. The symptoms of ASD can range from mild to severe but are a life-long neurobiological disorder which interferes in how the person perceives and interprets their world.
Signs and Symptoms
This picture helps explain the signs and symptoms of autism. Children with Autism have issues with;
- Relating to others
- Appropriate play
- Eye contact
- Poor or lack of speech
- Difficulty dealing with changes in routine
- Sensory issues
- Lack of awareness to danger
- Strange attachment to objects
- repetitive actions
This list is not exaustive of the symptoms of autism but hopefully gives you an idea of what autism looks like.
